This service includes sourcing, authentication, negotiation, and delivery coordination, ensuring each piece adds authenticity and architectural presence to your home.
The arrival of electricity in the early 20th century transformed pendant design. Fixtures became slimmer, safer, and more expressive. Designers like Poul Henningsen introduced layered‑shade pendants that diffused light softly and evenly, marking the beginning of modern lighting design. Mid‑century and contemporary pendants continued this evolution, exploring new materials, cleaner lines, and eventually LED technology.
In 1905, the Putnam Rolling Ladder Company was founded in New York City, establishing what would become the classic American rolling library ladder. Putnam’s design — a tall, elegant wooden ladder gliding on a precision‑engineered rail — became the industry standard and remains largely unchanged for more than a century. Their ladders were originally used in bookstores, libraries, and warehouses, later expanding into residential interiors as a functional design statement.
Hamilton Manufacturing Company of Two Rivers, Wisconsin was one of the most important producers of printer’s furniture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their cabinets, cases, and workstations were used in print shops to store letterpress type, punctuation blocks, and spacing materials. Each narrow drawer was designed to hold specific type sizes or sets, which is why many still carry original labels or numbering systems.
The proportions are tall and architectural, giving it a commanding presence in a room. The patina on the wood, the worn typography on the labels, and the uniform rhythm of the drawers all speak to decades of practical use. Decorative objects on top soften the piece, but its character remains distinctly industrial and utilitarian.
A decorative element taken from Rossini’s, an Italian restaurant that has since been torn down. It operated on the northwest corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Dempster Street in Niles, Illinois, throughout the 1990s. It was well‑known locally for its classic trattoria‑style façade.
This pier mirror is a classic example of late‑19th to early‑20th‑century American design, when homes often featured tall, architectural mirrors to visually expand narrow entryways and reflect available light. The fluted side columns and decorative capitals echo neoclassical influences that were popular during that era, while the rich wood finish reflects the craftsmanship of furniture makers who treated mirrors as both functional pieces and status symbols. Over time, pier mirrors like this became hallmarks of well‑appointed foyers and parlors, blending ornamentation with everyday utility in a way that still feels timeless today.
Early 20th‑century Victor Safe & Lock Co. fire‑resistant safe, built in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company was one of the most respected American safe manufacturers of the late 1800s and early 1900s, known for heavy steel construction, ornate painted crests, and extremely durable fireproofing.
These are European double interior doors, which are solid pine and fir, with frosted glass arranged in a classic early‑20th‑century pattern. The combination of three upper panes, two mid‑panes, and lower raised panels is a hallmark of continental design rather than American.
